Little Details Sketch, Week 4

I am still creating Christmas cards and here it is March!  As I've mentioned before, I am trying to create a large selection of cards for Christmas 2015. I hope to have many to choose from and I am well on my way. This card was created based on our current sketch at The Sketch File. Kathy created the sketch for our month long sketch challenge and it's a real winner. It will inspire you to use many details. Please join us at The Sketch File. We would love to see how you use the sketch. You can use the sketch to create a card, layout or any other project. We'll keep the sketch up until the end of March, so hurry on over and join us.

Embossed Mittens for Jingle Belles Challenge

I'm going to make this a short post. I haven't been feeling well and wanted to post this card before heading off to get some rest. This card was inspired by the current "Mission EMBOSS-ible"challenge at Jingle Belles. Who can resist a challenge to emboss? Unfortunately, I have many ideas rolling around in my head, including some with heat embossing, but I just don't have the energy to create. Instead, I hand cut a pair of mittens, dry embossed them and layered them on an embossed background. I used the plaid background because it reminds me of flannel clothing and warmth. Thanks for the inspiration Steph C @ One Crafty Chica!

Week 3 of The Little Details Sketch at The Sketch File

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I've got a new "baby" card for you today. It's inspired by our current sketch at The Sketch File. Kathy created this sketch for us and it's just wonderful. If you like to create cards with lots of detail, it will be the perfect sketch to inspire you.  Please link up your card with us, we can't wait to see what you create!

Sailboat Birthday Card

I needed another masculine birthday card so I put this card together with a few bits of scrap cardstock and patterned paper that I grabbed from my scrap stash. I seem to have an abundance of scraps that I am accumulating. Someday I am going to find a project that will use up a bunch of these scraps! Anyway, I handcut the sailboat from the scrap pieces and tore blue cardstock to represent the water. The card came together quickly and is already in the mail!

Little Details Week 2

It's week 2 for our current sketch challenge over at The Sketch File. The March sketch is fabulous and allows for the inclusion of many creative details. We will be using this sketch all month long, so we hope you will find the time to use it as inspiration for a creative project.  My card is yet another winter themed card. I am determined to have a large pile of Christmas cards to use when December 2015 rolls around so each month I'll use our sketch to create at least one Christmas or winter themed card.  We hope to see you at The Sketch File!

City Crafter Washi Challenge Card 2

I've created this card for a newly discoverd blog called City Crafter. This week City Crafter's challenge is to use WASHI TAPE.  I'm  having a blast with this challenge because of all the endless possibilities. This card was created using multiple shades of yellow washi tape. I layered strips both vertically and horizontally over a black mat and added an embossed panel with yellow and black punched flowers.  I matted the embossed panel with yellow cardstock trimmed with scallop decorative scissors and also added a strip of the yellow cardstock below the white panel.

City Crafter WASHI Challenge

Thanks to Lauren at All the Good Names Were Taken and Jingle Belles, I've discovered yet another fabulous blog. This one is City Crafter and this week's challenge is to use WASHI TAPE. I've been playing with washi for a few weeks now but this morning I couldn't resist making one more card with it. This time I created the patterned border to the right and left of the fish image on my card. I placed two different strips of patterned washi on my cutting mat and cut it into equal lengths, then adhered it to the white mat alternating each color. I can't remember the brand name of the washi. I have a drawer full of washi and no longer have the company labels.  In the center of my card I used a piece of patterned paper from Graphic 45. I layered it on a black mat and attached a piece of black netting (recycled from produce packaging). I am glad to have another masculine card to add to my collection as my family has several male birthdays to celebrate this month.

CASE-ing Christmas: Challenge #10

I'm playing along with the current challenge at CASE-ing Christmas. I was determined to play along this week. I had every intention of playing last week, but got so busy that I didn't get around to creating anything for the challenge. This week DT member Mynn has created a gorgeous card to inspire us (at right). I loved her CAS card and how she used three different patterns of washi tape and centered the ornament in the middle of them.  I also used washi tape with three different patterns and layered them in the center of the card. Instead of an ornament, I used a tag with a snowman image and surrounded it with green snowflakes. Mynn used white on white and I did this as well, however, I decided to add a bit of texture and embossed the mat. This made it impossible to write the sentiment directly onto the mat, so I wrote the sentiment on a strip of cardstock and matted it before adhering it to the white mat.

Jingle Belles: A Very Vibrant Christmas Card 2

Jingle Belles "A Very Vibrant Christmas" photo
Here's another card for the Jingle Belles: A Very Vibrant Christmas challenge. The colors in the challenge photo are just so appealing. I hope you can see that the colors in my card are bright pink, teal and lime green and that the glittery deer is white. (At my end, the pink looks red and the glittery areas look gray! Of course, that could just be my vision or my computer settings.) Anyway,  I've been inspired by the colors, the glittery, green deer in the center of the challenge photo, the polka dotted ornaments and the swirling design on the placemat. So I used glitter on the deer, and a glittered swirl like design behind the striped mat and green polka dotted washi tape.

52 CCT Marker Challenge

I'm playing along with the current challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. This challenge had me pulling out MARKERS! I haven't used them in a long while so it was the perfect challenge for me. I ended up creating the red and green background paper with the markers. I drew squiggly lines all over a piece of white cardstock using a red and green marker. I felt like I was back in kindergarten!!! Next I colored in the white area with a green colored pencil, then punched random holes in it.  I handcut a tree, crumpled it and uncrumpled it (to give it texture) then mounted it on a piece of white cardstock. The white cardstock was a bit blah, so I punched holes in it and scalloped the edges with decorative scissors.

Little Details at The Sketch File

It's already March! I can't believe it. I don't know what happened to February. It just flew by. The good news is that there is a new sketch up and ready at The Sketch File. We're having fun with it. There are lots of opportunities to add lots of little details. I can't wait to see what you do with the sketch. Please post your card, layout or other project here.

Masculine Birthday

I put this card together using a few pieces of scrap cardstock that I have in my stash. It actually came together very quickly and will be used to celebrate a birthday in the next few weeks.   I simply pulled out my stash of red cardstock scrap pieces and selected a few pieces that I thought worked well together. I cut them into banners and then added a few pieces of tan and brown, musical patterned paper. The sentiment was computer generated.

Jingle Belles: A Very Vibrant Challenge

I'm  just bouncing back after feeling unhealthy for the past two weeks. When I'm ill, I sleep. I've slept so much that I was beginning to wonder if  I could stay awake for more than 10 minutes! The good news is that I CAN! I was able to complete this card this morning (followed by yet another nap).  Fortunately, the card came together quickly. It's inspired by the current "A Very Vibrant Christmas" challenge at Jingle Belles and Steph and Lauren's inspirational photo at right.

First, I was inspired by the colors. I loved the contrast of the bright pink, green and blue colors against the white "snow" and table cloth. Since I didn't have metallic papers of a similar color, I reached for cardstock.  I noticed the lovely scalloped edge on the charger plate, so I used decorative scissors to scallop the edge of the pink embossed cardstock. I embossed the cardstock with a floral pattern that had a dandelion image. If you look just behind the deer on the left, you can see that dandelion like image embossed in the cardstock. This reminded me of the green ornament hanging from the candle stick in the photo.  Of course, the deer in the center of the photo inspired me to use deer on my card. I gave my deer a bit of dimension by adhering them with dimensional adhesives. I also included a tree, inspired by the pink tree in the photo. I used white cardstock instead of pink so it would pop and work better with the white deer. Lastly, the snow on my card was inspired by the polka dots on the ornaments.
