I came across the photo in this layout while organizing a few things. I set it aside because I knew that it had to be a focal point in a layout. The photos brings back such fond memories of my son . Goodness knows it was much easier to take candid photos of him when he was younger.  Now that he has grown into a fine young man and is finishing his first year of college, it is harder to take precious photos like this one.

The layout was inspired by the April sketch at The Sketch File. Kathy and I have been using the sketch to share a layout or card each week. We hope to inspire a few other crafters to use the sketch for a project or two and to share the project with us at The Sketch File.

Here's a look at two versions of the sketch:

April Sketch Update

I have found myself reaching for flower punches regularly. I think that this must be a sign that spring is here! It has been very spring like here for weeks. Our red bud trees are blossoming right now and there are daffodils everywhere. I think these signs of spring and the April sketch provided just the right inspiration for this card. I had fun mixing up the patterned papers and adding small detail, like the textured flower center. What about you? Are you feeling inspired by something around you? Maybe you will feel inspired by Kathy's sketches and will use them to create a project. Please take a moment to visit with us at The Sketch File and to post a project or two with us.

Introducing the April Sketch

It's April already! It's also time to introduce the April Sketch at The Sketch File. I decided to use the sketch and create a card with a few dragonflies. I also used a monochromatic theme.  The dragonflies were punched from a piece of cardstock that I got from a tissue box.  I don't know if you can tell from the photo, but they are shiny and almost reflective. The sketch has multiple layers and as always you can use any shape and feel free to rotate, flip, enlarge, or shrink the sketch. Please take a look at the sketch and if you are feeling inspired, we'd love to see your creations.

Colorful Birthday Card

The March sketch at the The Sketch File inspired this card. I was also inspired by the bits and pieces of scrap paper that I found in my stash. I started with the patterned background paper and then matched colors from the scrap stash. I explored a bit with textures by using embossing folders and love the bright colors and the end result.  I've included the March sketch below and hope you will find time to create and share your project with Kathy and I at The Sketch File.

Stars & Stripes

Happy Tuesday! I'm sharing a card with stars and stripes and a few other patterned papers. I love the mix of colors and the happy feeling that they elicit. The LO is based on the current sketch at The Sketch File. I hope you will take a few minutes to create a project based on our current sketch and share your project with us at The Sketch File. Here are two versions of our current sketch (feel free to change the shapes!):

Update @ The Sketch File

If it looks like I'm still stuck in Christmas card mode, I guess you could say that's true.  I am making an effort to stay ahead of them this year. Last year I scrambled to get enough cards done, so I'm getting a head start. This card is based on the current sketch at The Sketch File. Kathy also has a delightful card that she is sharing. Please hop on over to the The Sketch File and take a look. If you feel inspired, we'd love to see what you create based on the sketch.

February @ The Sketch File

As February progresses I wanted to share another project I created based on our current sketch at The Sketch File. This time I've used our sketch to create a layout. I think the sketch really lends itself to this type of project. It also works well for cards. Please hop on over to The Sketch File to see what Kathy has created. We hope you will feel inspired and will link up a project or two with us.

February Sketch at The Sketch File

It's time to introduce the February sketch at The Sketch File. Kathy has created yet another fun sketch and we've both been busy creating a few projects to further inspire you to use the sketch to create your project.  I've tweaked the sketch just a bit. I ended up using only two horizontal strips whereas Kathy's sketch has three. I also rotated the sketch. I hope you can still see the sketch in my card. As always, Kathy and I encourage you to have fun with the sketch and feel free to shrink parts of it, enlarge parts, rotate, flip and make a few tweaks so that it works for your project. You can upload your creation HERE. We're looking forward to seeing what you create!

Thursday, February 2, 2017

I am very late in posting this card this week. I had every intention of posting it on Tuesday, but the week got away from me and now it's Thursday. This card was inspired by the January sketch at The Sketch File . I hope you had time to stop by the The Sketch File and see what Kathy has been creating as well. We always look forward to seeing what you can create based on the current sketch. We'll keep the current sketch up until next Tuesday. so please share your clever creation with us.

Birthday Card

I am sharing another card this week based on the current sketch at The Sketch File. Kathy has also posted a fabulous card, so I hope you will hop on over to take a peek. My card uses shades of purple. I have a particular person in mind for this card and purple is her color. The card came together quickly which is always a plus, thanks to Kathy's great sketch!  We will have the sketch up until the end of January, so if you are feeling inspired, we hope you will let us see what you've created. As always you can make adjustments to the sketch including rotating it, flipping it, enlarging or shrinking it, use it on a rectangular or square card or layout. Have fun and share your creation with us at The Sketch File. Here are two versions of the sketch:

The Sketch File in January

Today I am sharing a card based on our current sketch at The Sketch File. I was determined to create a birthday card as my stash of them is slowly growing smaller and smaller. I also wanted to create a card that could be used for a male or female. I'm not sure I mastered this, but at least I have a new card for the collection. The sketch is fun to work with and I hope you will be inspired. Please share your creation with us at The Sketch File. As always Kathy has shared two versions of the sketch and we invite you to enlarge it, flip it, rotate, shrink it and use it for a card or scrapbook layout.
Happy crafting!

First Sketch of the Year

Happy New Year! I hope your year is off to a great start. It's time for the first sketch of the year at The Sketch File.  Kathy and I would love to see what you create with it . It's a simple sketch but offers so much inspiration. We'll keep the sketch up all month long so you can create one or more cards or projects throughout the month. Be creative and feel free to make a few changes to the sketch. You can rotate it, shrink it, enlarge it, resize parts of it, but as always the goal is to have fun creating.  As you can see, Kathy has already created two versions of the sketch:
